The legacy of Gerald K. Tallman
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald K. Tallman, founder of Tallman Truck Centre. Gerald Tallman born May 18th, 1941, passed away peacefully at home in the evening of Sunday May 2nd, 2021 after a battle with cancer. Gerald Tallman leaves behind a legacy of entrepreneurship, kindness and generosity.
Gerald started his career in the automotive business as a young teen in the parts department of a local car dealership to help support his family after the death of his father. His diligence and commitment to helping others ensured his success and in 1970 Tallman opened his own garage and used car lot. In 1973, he became part owner of Kemptville Truck Centre and, shortly after, its sole proprietor. The dealership then grew to 9 locations and rebranded to Tallman Truck Centre. In 2008, Gerald passed the business on to his son, Kevin G. Tallman who continues to run the business today as Rush Truck Centres of Canada with 14 dealership locations.
Throughout his career, Gerald received many awards of recognition including the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from International Trucks for his consistent record of achievement and humanity throughout the course of his career and for acting as a role model of excellence. Gerald was also recognized by North Grenville Chamber of Commerce as a Citizen of the year and Employer of the year.
Gerald was known as a leader in his community for his charitable efforts opening the Tallman Family Emergency Room at the Kemptville General Hospital in 2010 as well as hosting Annual Charity Golf Tournaments supporting various organizations.
Gerald will be missed immensely by his family, friends, co-workers and community.
